This wiki was created to function as an open knowledge platform, where people that are interested in savonius type windmills can see and share information on all aspects of making them.
The end goal is to create a possibility for people to create their own windcatching machines, or to produce them at a fair price once designed, so people will be less dependent on oil or poluting ways of producing energy.
People now spend up to a quarter of income on energy. Cities are where most people live. It is impossible to build horizontal wind turbines in a citie, but a few square meters of savonius windmills on your roof or in your garden would be not as much of a problem.
For people who live deep inside nature, it provides a way to use modern equipment.
I think it would be great if people would create their own energy. People who try also realize that it is very hard to create 800 watt continue, and they will run to their 100 watt lightbulbs and replace them with leds or fluorescent lightbulbs, it will make people more consiuous about consuming energy as well, and that could have a real impact on reducing green house gasses etc.
In the end, the goal is to make people selfsufficient, independent from outside power, perhaps even deliver power to the grid.
